Code of Conduct
General Behavior
As biblical teaching instructs all of us, Raider athletes are encouraged and expected to exhibit Christ-like behavior while participating in any TREA sport. (Colossians 3:12-17; Hebrews 13:16-17).
- Athletes are expected to abide by all coaching directions.
- Athletes are expected to proceed quietly in and between buildings, on/off courts and fields, never leaving an area designated for Rock Raider sports without specific permission.
- Athletes are expected to refrain from horseplay on the field/court, representing Christ-honoring behavior toward their teammates and opponents.
- Athletes are to leave all areas neater than they found them.
Inappropriate Behavior
In an effort to instill biblical values and create a positive, safe, Christ-centered environment on the court or field, TREA has deemed the following behaviors as inappropriate for athletes. (Philippians 4:8)
- Insubordination or defiance (Romans 13:1-2): this includes willful failure to comply with the rules and regulations of the school (or athletic league) or willful failure to comply with the directives of coaches and school personnel.
- Public display of affection (1 Cor. 6:18): this includes behaviors such as, but not limited to, holding hands, kissing, or hugging.
- Profanity, vulgarity, and abusive language (Ephesians 4:29, 31-32): includes written or verbal name calling, curse words, swear words, put downs, suggestive language, and gestures.
- Fighting, physical harm, bullying, cyberbullying, and harassment (Ephesians 4:30-31): includes any act upon another person or property which intends to cause physical harm, is intentionally intimidating, frightening, exclusionary or hurtful.
- Weapons (Ephesians 4:30-31): includes, but not limited to, firearms, knives, defense spray, imitation weapons, fireworks, lighters, and matches.
- Distracting items: any items which would detract from or distract from the spiritual and athletic mission of the school including, but not limited to, music devices, handheld gaming devices, inappropriate reading material, games, laser pointers, chewing gum and toys.
- Gender Issues (Genesis: 1:27, 5:2, 6:19): Transgenderism and gender identities other than male and female are not biblical and therefore not allowed.
Discipline Policy and Enforcement
As part of TREA’s mission to “impart truth and cultivate character” it may become necessary to hold athletes participating in Rock Raider sports accountable for actions that violate school policy. Conflict management, discipline and further action will be done in a way that follows biblical principles. If an infraction occurs, the immediate safety of the student and others will be the first priority. (Matthew 18; Hebrews 13:16-17; Proverbs 27:17)
- Forms of discipline may include warnings, corrections, fines, probation, suspension or dismissal.
- A warning and correction will be given first in most instances. If an incident report is written for a student, their parents will receive the report via notification through an email, text, or phone call depending on the severity of the incident. Parents may contact the director if further discussion is needed.
- Parents will be informed of the situation if a warning and correction do not correct the behavior.
- If necessary, a student may be sent out of an organized practice or game, and parents called to come to pick them up.
- At the discretion of the Director and Coaches, some offenses can result in immediate dismissal from TREA athletics.
- Fines will not exceed the cost to repair or replace property damaged by the student.
- Probation may involve loss of privileges and exclusions from practices and games.
- All situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
- The athlete and parent must accept any disciplinary measures or be dismissed from the team without a refund.
Illness Policy
Please do not bring children to any sanctioned event if they have had a fever, diarrhea, vomiting, or other contagious conditions in the last 24 hours. Additionally, do not bring children who were exposed to or live with individuals who have tested positive to flu, COVID, or other viruses.
Student Safety
The safety and security of Rock Raider athletes and students is our top priority. All children must be supervised by a parent, coach or designated personnel when walking to and from buildings, fields and courts of an athletic activity. Athletes should never be out of sight of a coach, guardian or their parents.
Please make sure that your child’s medical and emergency contact information, and authorized individuals information is current. If you need to update this information, email the director, Angela Jay-Turner at dir@therockenrichmentacademy.org.
If your child carries an EpiPen for emergency allergic reactions, we must have a signed medical release on file. All allergies, current injuries and medical conditions should also be clearly indicated. Medication and epi-pens must be securely stored in a personal backpack.
Any accidents or injuries while participating in any Rock Raider sport activity should be reported immediately to the available coach or to the director, and an Incident Report will be completed.
Communication
TREA encourages open communication between coaches, parents, athletes and the director. Following the Matthew 18 principle, parents are asked to voice any concerns or questions directly to the coach involved or to the director. Coaches and the director are expected to voice any concerns or questions directly to parents.
- Communication channels include Google Classrooms, verbal, calls or texts.
- Parents are asked to support and facilitate their child’s athletic participation by keeping apprised of information posted on Google Classroom.
- The director of TREA, Angela Jay-Turner, may be reached at (512) 653-2323 or dir@therockenrichmentacademy.org
