Wednesday Highlights/ Homework (4/18) So sorry for the late post!

SCIENCE
Dry Ice Fun! After discussing safety guidelines, we had fun with dry ice. We reviewed the 3 states of matter. The students explored “sublimation” using the dry ice and dish soap and water. We made CO2 bubbles and enjoyed a sparkling drink.

COMMUNICATIONS:
*K/1 and 1/2 we talked about how to disagree with people well. We watched a Kid President video on disagreements and the Berenstain Bears on Fighting. Then we played “hot potato” where the person who ended with the potato last had to share one idea for conflict resolution.
*3/4 and 5/6 finished speeches and began to work through the elements of debate in teams. 3/4 we began a demonstration and will pick up where we left off. In 5/6, Noah and Bronson shared their speeches and they both did amazing jobs!

Tomorrow will be Zoe Rose’s last day this school year. We will celebrate her in Character Building with treats. Your 5/6 grader is welcome to contribute like we did for Bronson last week.

SPANISH: Hola!
*K/1 heard a delightful presentation by Joshua ( todo sobre mi). We met his hermano y hermana, learned like most of our amigos that pizza is his comida favorita! Joshua would like to be an arquitecto when he grows up, and his favorite pasatiempo is correr! We also read El Gallo Mandon y Mi Abuela!
*1/2 grade traveled to Espana this week with Sarah! We saw the Royal Palace in Madrid, met a Flamenco dancer and learned about the Matador bull fighter. We also saw the Iberian Lynx, the most endangered cat in the world. Sarah also brought in pan dulce ( sweet bread) to share with the class! Thank you to Sarahs mama, it was most yummy! We also finished reading Los Cinco Crayones.
*3/4 grade traveled to Ecuador, Peru y Mexico this week! Alice took us to Mexico where we met a Mariachi musician, saw a glimpse of the national bird Golden Eagle and enjoyed playing some maracas! Alice also shared a very sweet story from a time when her parents were on visit in Mexico ( involving snakes)! We stopped in Peru with Bella, saw a beautiful pink dolphin (only found in the Amazon River)! Saw the poisonous dart frog from afar, and learned the Selva is home to more variety of orchids than anywhere else in the world. We also visited the Andes Mt. Miah took us to Ecuador, we heard the amazing story of Jim and Elizabeth Elliot, Missionaries to the Waodani tribe in 1956. How the power of Jesus Christ can transform the hearts of the most unbelieving individual. We learned Ecuador has over 25,000 plant species and 1,600 know bird species! We also caught a glimpse of yet another pink dolphin in the ocean. Miah shared with the class empanadas de verde with queso fresco! Soooo yummy!!! Muchas gracias estudiantes!
*5/6 grade traveled to Costa Rica with Haley and crossed the Atlantic to Guinea Africa with Kolby where Spanish is also spoken! We visited beautiful costal beaches, saw an amazing waterfall and many local animals like White Tail Deer and West Indian Manatee. Haley taught us that Costa Rica in Spanish means rich coast. We also enjoyed a wonderful dish that the locals eat Gallo Pinto, topped with pico de gallo, cilantro y crema agria served with juevos. Delicioso!!! Kolby took us to Guinea, we met some local children, saw the Capitol City of Conakry and visited highlands that are covered with forests and savanna. Gold and Diamond are some of the natural resources. We also enjoyed a local favorite drink from Guinea that consists of ginger, lemons, cloves and cinnamon. We were short on time this week so the rest of our friends will present their projects next week.
Gracias

ART:
K-1 top secret project
3-6 working on our shadow puppets and stage
*Character building 1-2
We talked about our words. We discussed how words are a lot like toothpaste in the toothpaste tube. Once they come out they just don’t go back again. We need to use patience when using our words to express ourselves.

Our awesome kiddos…

Matt 19:15 “Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
