*5/6 & 3/4–we learned conflict resolutions skills, discussed types of debate, and planned for the next couple months of debate. These two classes will be competing with each other and then against each other in a more formal debate at the end of the year.

SCIENCE this week with Mrs. Cecil:
We explored pollination, the how and why. We “pollenated” flowers we made with “bees.” Homework: research other ways flowering plants pollinate besides bees.
We discussed “fruit-tables” (fruits/vegetables/berries) We looked at how scientists categorize fruits/vegetables. We discussed how “knowledge is knowing a tomato or pepper is a fruit. wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.” Homework: research/list other “fruit-tables” 3-6th have a plant crossword to complete for extra credit. K-2 have a plant word search for extra credit.
We explored how fuel gives objects energy by racing balloons down tether lines. We also observed the law of inertia with a little “magic trick” explained by science using a cup, card, and coins. Then the students used their folders, lab sheets, and pencils to explore this same concept and make their own “magic trick.” Homework: try the extension experiments on the lab sheet. Will a balloon travel further if you used a different “fuel?” What would happen to the coin if you rolled it in a cup and suddenly stopped the cup?
